Sprunki Phase 1 Introduction

What Is Sprunki Phase 1?

Sprunki Phase 1 is the build where the whole Sprunki series began. According to the Sprunki Phases Wiki and the Incredibox Sprunki Wiki, the original Sprunki mod was created by a Scratch user known as NyankoBfLol and launched on Scratch on August 26, 2024, as a reskin of Incredibox with its own cast of characters and its own sound set. What later became known as "Phase 1" is that original build, named retroactively once fan creators began releasing numbered follow-ups.

The early history was rocky. Wiki records describe the project facing repeated removals from Scratch after reports about its cartoon-style gore content, which pushed NyankoBfLol to move the project to Cocrea on September 19, 2024, and later to Incredimake before development stopped entirely. Wiki accounts also note that NyankoBfLol grew uneasy with how popular Sprunki became and with the wave of low-effort "content farm" copies that followed, and by 2025 the original project was unlisted. In a later community update covered by the wiki, NyankoBfLol confirmed he has no plans to bring Sprunki back, so this Phase 1 build is preserved largely as the community found it.

Phase 1's importance comes from what grew out of it. Wiki sources describe Phase 1 and Sprunki Phase 2 as the two entries NyankoBfLol made himself; starting with Phase 3, other fan creators picked up the numbering and kept releasing their own builds under the same name, which is how the wider Sprunki Phases series — including Phase 3, Phase 4, Phase 5, and Phase 6 — came to exist. If you want the full picture of how the mod scene took shape before any numbering existed, the original Sprunki page covers that broader story, and the Incredibox Sprunki page rounds up the mod family this phase started.

How to Play

Sprunki Phase 1 uses the same drag-and-drop mixing format found across the series. Each character you place on stage adds one looping sound layer, and stacking different layers together is how a full track comes together — there's no script or win condition, just combinations to try.

  • Drag a character icon onto an empty slot on stage to add its sound layer to the mix.
  • Combine characters from different sound categories to build a fuller track rather than layering similar sounds.
  • Remove or swap out any character at any time if a combination feels too cluttered.
  • Watch for characters that change the whole scene rather than just adding a sound — Phase 1 has one that flips the entire mode.
  • Let a mix loop for a few bars before deciding whether it works, since some layers only make sense once they repeat.

Characters

According to the Sprunki Phases Wiki, Phase 1 introduced the 20-character cast that the wider series has reused and remixed ever since, split into the standard four categories:

  • Beats: Oren, Raddy, Clukr, Fun Bot, and Vineria.
  • Effects: Gray, Brud, Garnold, OWAKCX, and Sky.
  • Melodies: Mr. Sun, Durple, Mr. Tree, Simon, and Tunner.
  • Vocals: Mr. Fun Computer, Wenda, Pinki, Jevin, and Black.

Most of the cast behaves like a standard Incredibox-style lineup, but Black is the exception. Wiki documentation describes Black as the character that switches the whole game into Horror Mode the moment it's placed, turning the bright default cast into injured, unsettling versions of themselves. In that darker state, Gray is documented as the character most associated with Horror Mode, while Simon anchors the standard Normal Mode. Because this switch happens instantly and isn't easy to undo mid-mix, it's worth knowing before you drop Black onto the stage.

Tips for New Players

  • Start with two or three Beats characters before adding Effects or Melodies, so you can actually hear what each new layer contributes.
  • Add Vocals last — characters like Wenda or Mr. Fun Computer tend to sit on top of a mix rather than anchor it.
  • Hold off on placing Black until you're ready for Horror Mode; it changes the whole scene, not just the audio.
  • If a combination sounds muddy, remove one character at a time rather than starting the whole mix over.
  • If you're curious how the cast evolved, Phase 2 is the natural next stop since NyankoBfLol made both builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sprunki Phase 1 free to play?

Yes. Sprunki Phase 1 is free to play directly in your browser, with no download or account required.

Is Sprunki Phase 1 an official Incredibox release?

No. Sprunki started as a fan-made Incredibox mod built by NyankoBfLol on Scratch, not an official Incredibox product. If you want to compare it against sanctioned Incredibox content, the Sprunki Remastered and Sprunki Retake pages cover other builds in the same fan ecosystem.

Can I play Sprunki Phase 1 on mobile?

Yes, it runs in modern mobile and desktop browsers, though a larger screen makes it easier to manage the full 20-character roster at once.

Is Sprunki Phase 1 the same as the newer numbered phases?

Not exactly. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are the two builds NyankoBfLol made personally; every numbered entry from Phase 3 onward was released by a different fan creator reusing the Sprunki name and, largely, its original character cast. If you're exploring the series in order, the Sprunki Phases hub lists the numbered builds together, and fan-made spinoff characters are collected separately on the Sprunki OC page.

Does Sprunki Phase 1 include horror content?

Yes. Placing the Black character switches the game into Horror Mode, which wiki sources describe as showing injured, darker versions of the cast. It isn't hidden behind a warning screen the way some later phases are, so go in aware if you'd rather stick to the bright default mode.
